Ok Brian none of the other members seem to know for sure so I will have a stab at it
I think most screensavers are a single executable file
Rather than being an ".exe" file like regular programs they have the ".scr" extension

Note .scr files can run just like program files.
A lot of emailed viruses are disguised as screensavers for this reason.
So you should be very careful with them - make sure any you run are trusted.

SCR files should work the same on both Win98 and XP
So all we have to do is find the screensaver you want on the Win98 PC and copy it across to the XP
The only trick is finding where the files are and where to copy them to.

You could do a file find on 98 to locate your screensaver.
I don't have 98 any more but this site http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/win9x_customization/ assures me that
"Screensaver files (*.scr) are normally stored in C:\windows\system32 on win9x/Me machines"
So look there and find your file - if you aren't sure which SCR file is right just double click it and the Screensaver should run
Copy the right file - it shouldn't be very big - and load it onto the XP machine
Funnily enough you need to save it back in the same spot, that is C:\windows\system32 on the XP machine
Again just double click to make sure it runs
Your screensaver should now appear in your list of selectable screensavers
Just select it as your default as usual
I am sure you know but you can access the list by Right clicking the desktop - Choose Properties - and choose the Screensaver tab

Hope this helps Brian and let us know if it works

Personally I don't really use a screensaver - I just blank the screen after 10 minutes - but I know some people love them.

What screensaver do you use?
Write back and tell us and I'll share everyone's ideas

Cheers
