Hi all
We have a question from Avril today
I have a query re McAfee Antivirus software:
A free 15-month subscription came with my Dell computer and that is now coming to an end.
McAfee have sent me renewal offers for the "McAfee Security Centre 7-in-1" for a 3-year subscription of $200.95 (1-yr
$85.95).
I find I can get from Harris Technology McAfee "Total Protection 2007" for $109, or "McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 -
Complete package" for $69.
There is no time limit to the products from Harris Technology, and they assure me that I would get the same protection from the Internet Security Suite as I do from my present Security Centre.
Any comments, please.
Avril
Well Avril we all have our personal preferences as to what software we use
Internet Security suites usually have a number of programs included
Typically antivirus, antispyware, anti-spam, and sometimes parental controls to limit what kids can view on the net
Antivirus software has been mentioned at Mullies before
I know most members like me use the free version of AVG - It's up to 7.5 now
Downloadable from HERE
I particularly like it as I find it uses the lowest amount of resources - memory, etc
Like you I had a free subscription to McAfee for 12 months
I found it did the job but it did slow my computer down more than AVG
Before that I had an older version of Norton Antivirus - It was even worse
Free anti-spyware programs are available too
I personally quite like the free Windows Defender from Microsoft
(note your Windows needs to be legit to download this program)
A number of anti-spam solutions are available - many free
I like to use Gmail for all my mail which has quite good spam filtering
For an installable solution try K9
So in short it is quite possible to replace the functionality of your current programs for free!
However if you would like an all-in-one solution then I would recommend
AVG Security Suite
Norton 360 (the new one is much better)
Zonealarm Security Suite
The reviews I have read in magazines of a number of programs have recommended the last 2
Norton 360 is available for less than $100 and is installable on 3 separate computers for that price
If anyone else has any thoughts or suggestions for Avril they can bring them up tomorrow night at the Mullies meeting
7pm at the CRC in St Vincent St
See you there
I thought this was funny :)
The practice of devout nuns keeping a vow of silence does not extend online, according to a Sicilian convent.
Twelve cloistered nuns at the 13th century Santo Spirito convent in Agrigento, Sicily have begun to answer enquiries sent to their website.
While they are held to a vow of silence in everyday life, they have been dispensing advice on their lifestyle to interested parties and keeping in touch with other Cistercian nuns in France and America.
Sister Maria at the Santo Spirito convent said that the website had been set up to gather prayers and to share the nuns' mission with the world.
